I was talking to someone today about life and death. They told me how much they feared dying, and I said that I didn’t. That I didn’t really mind the thought of death.
Then they said something that stayed with me:
“Maybe it’s because you haven’t found a feeling you’d want to last forever yet.”
Later that evening, I hugged my mum and lay beside her. And suddenly, I thought back to those words.
My heart ached.
Because in that moment, all I could think was, I wish this could last forever.
And maybe that’s my reason for being here.
Maybe what scares me isn’t death itself, but knowing that the things I finally find worth staying for cannot stay forever.
Life ends.
And I think what I fear most is what comes after the moments I never wanted to end.
